“Rangers! Niederkorn got Rangers!” We were so excited to know that Niederkorn would play Rangers in their first round of the Europa League quali and immediately reserved the evening for the game. We checked all the ticket information to make sure we didn’t miss the chance of getting tickets.

[En] BGL Ligue: FC Una Strassen – Jeunesse Esch
Founded in 1922, Union Athlétique Strassen had played in lower leagues in Luxembourg for a long time until recent years. They earned the promotion spot to the second league for the first time in their history in 2011, and finally promoted to the first year in 2015.
[En] BGL Ligue: CS Fola Esch – FC Differdange
We didn’t plan much for the long weekend but football. After a nice afternoon at the Kaiserlinde on Saturday, we planned to go to two more games in Luxembourg.
[En] 2nd Bundesliga: 1. FC Union Berlin – 1. FC Kaiserslautern
When I travelled to Berlin four years ago, I saw some people wearing Union shirts at Warschauer Straße station. I wondered if there was a game in Berlin. At that time, I didn’t know much about anything outside Bundesliga. I remember I checked the fixtures and knew that there wasn’t a (Bundesliga) game in Berlin. But I followed them to board a S-Bahn anyway without knowing where they were heading to.
[En] Oberliga: BSG Chemie Leipzig – FC Carl Zeiss Jena II
A small trip was already waiting for us after we were back from Asia in early April as we decided to travel to Berlin over the Easter weekend with a stopover in Leipzig for three nights. The reason we chose to stop in Leipzig was obvious – football.
[En] Chinese Super League: Beijing Guoan – Shanghai Shenhua
Towards the end of our Asia trip, we decided to stopover in Beijing for three days. Luckily, the Chinese Super League had also just started and Beijing Guoan would be playing at home during the weekend.
[En] J1 League: Kashiwa Reysol – Vegalta Sendai
It was the first Japanese club that made most of the Germans, including me, realised that Japanese football also had fan culture like Europe: they had ultras with their own banners, flags and chants. Almost everyone in Europe, especially Germany, watched the video of Sendai’s legendary away support in Yokohama in 2009. But it was also a club, that became famous because its tragic history.
[En] Sapling Cup: Southern – Tai Po FC
Our destination was not to the shopping district in Mongkok, but somewhere slightly outside the crowds. After crossing streets of bars and restaurants, we came to a sportpark, and behind it you would find the wonderful Mong Kok Stadium.
[En] BGL Ligue: US Mondorf – FC Victoria Rosport
Since our way back home from Elversberg to Trier was partly closed, we decided to drive via Luxembourg instead of following the official detour. We actually planned go to Mondorf before we knew the Autobahn would be closed, but anyway, we drove about an hour to the Southeast of Luxembourg to watch another BGL Ligue game.
[En] Regional League: Eintracht Trier – SSV Ulm
As the Regional League resumeed after a two-month winter break, we decided to visit the Mosel Stadium again on a sunny Sunday. We didn’t plan anything big for the coming two weeks as we have to save money for our big trip in March!
