17th Match Day of Luxembourg BGL Ligue US Mondorf - FC Victoria Rosport Stade John Grün Result: 2:1 (1:0) Attendance: 335
Since our way back home from Elversberg to Trier was partly closed, we decided to drive via Luxembourg instead of following the official detour. We actually planned go to Mondorf before we knew the Autobahn would be closed, but anyway, we drove about an hour to the Southeast of Luxembourg to watch another BGL Ligue game.
The Sunday started with sunshine but it didn’t last long. The (heavy) rain started after we went onto the Autobahn, and the forecast said the rain would go on for the next few hours.
After we arrived at the Stade John Grün, the home ground of US Mondorf, we immediately went under the rooftop of the wooden main stand, which looked really elegant and nice! When tried to look for a dry place but most of them on the top two rows were already occupied; At the end we simply went into the media box where less wind could enter!
On the other side of the home stand, there was another little stand, which was similar to Niderkorn’s ground, where you found two steps of staircase. The fan group of Mondorf, the Angry Goats, usually gathered on the little stand to chant for their team, but because of the rain, they joined the rest of the fans under the rooftop.
The green and white Union Sportive Mondorf-les-Bains have been playing mostly in lower leagues and were promoted to the first league in 2014. They finished with a seventh place and as the runner-up of the Luxembourger Cup last season. There were at the nineth place before the game while their opponent FC Victoria Rosport were at the bottom.
The Angry Goats started chanting with their drums when the game began, which created a nice atmosphere on the home stand. There were also few away fans attended the game and there was this one man who stood under the rain on the other stand with his umbrella and chanted for Rosport the whole time!
Although Rosport were the weakest of the league, they were actually the team that controlled the game. The guests gave a lot of pressure to the home team and could create a few chances. However, Mondorf took the advantage of the space at the back of Rosport’s side and scored the first goal with their first attempt.
Rosport were given a penalty after a clear foul by a green-and-white player and made it 1:1. Just when we thought the game could end as it was, Mondorf scored the winner towards the end of the game. We could only say Rosport didn’t have much luck that day.
We dashed back to the car when the game was over to get warm, and then went home to start packing for our Asia Tour!
