27th Match Day of Regional League Southwest
SV Elversberg - KSV Hessen Kassel
Waldstadion an der Kaiserlinde
Result: 2:0 (0:0)
Attendance: 1,472 (50 Guests)

After the disappointing weekend in Steinbach, we were back in Elversberg for the home game against KSV Hessen Kassel. Weather forecast said it was 14 degrees when we left to the stadium and it was right, it was warm and sunny! It has been a while since we could have a beer instead of a Glühwein.

Kassel is from the north of Hessen, which would take the away fans about five hours to travel down to Saarland. The statistics told us that Elversberg were not that lucky when they played against Kassel, who were unbeaten in the last five games when these two teams met. We still remember how Kassel scored the equaliser in the last minute few months ago when Elversberg played there away.

The home fans prepared a banner that said “Bleib Standhaft! – Kämpfen Winnie” to show support to a FC Saarbrücken fan who was seriously ill. It was a really warm gesture from the Elversberg fans – showing that football isn’t always about hatred and rivals.

The main fan group of Kassel arrived only about 10 minutes before kick off. There were not that many fans in the away block, but still they created a pretty good atmosphere. The away fans probably had a good time chanting as they went half naked after some minutes into the game. Wait, was it already summer?

As the players entered the pitch, both fans started to wave the flags and sing their songs. Elversberg had a good tempo in the first half and dominated most of the time, though it took more than 45 minutes until they took the lead. New signing Niko Dobros scored a brilliant lob outside the penalty box from the left!

Kassel had some chances but didn’t threaten the home team at all. Elversberg didn’t stop pushing to try to get one more goal. At 78th minute, the referee awarded the home team a penalty after a foul by a Kassel player. Edmond Kapllani scored the penalty and secured Elversberg’s three points.

Most home fans tried to leave the stadium as fast as possible because a storm was approaching. The sky went darker and the wind went stronger. It wasn’t easy for the fans to collect the banners and flags after the game because of the wind!

It was good to see that Elversberg were finally performing again! Next game they will be playing away in Ulm, but we will be in Hong Kong!
